Tips for deseeding a pomegranate

Score (cut) the midline

The first thing you want to do is score the fruit around the midline. This cut should be deep enough to cut the skin, but not the seeds inside.

Pull it apart

Pull the halves apart with your thumbs.

Use a bowl of water

Water will soften the pith, or white tissue, of the fruit. Submerge the halves, making sure each half stays down and away from the other.

Hit it

The next thing you do is turn the halves upside down and whack them with the back of a spoon. This will allow the seeds to escape out into the bowl of water.

Extract remaining seeds

Make sure to loosen any of the remaining seeds that are stuck. You can do this with your hands or the spoons.

Remove any extra pith

Scoop out any of the floating pith out of the water. This step is easy because the seeds sink.

Once you drain the water, your seeds will be ready to eat.

Use the method above for easy deseeding and more enjoyment of your pomegranates. The pomegranate is a powerhouse of nutrition. The antioxidants it contains are great for your health and they have a flavor that can’t be beat.
