Benefits of Drinking and Eating Raw Food

April 13, 2017

Today’s food supply has become saturated with artificial flavors, preservatives, and heavily processed and pasteurized foods. With so much of our available food resembling nothing like the food our ancestors ate, how are we supposed to get the nutrients we need to maintain our health? For many people, drinking and eating raw food is the answer.

What is the Raw Food Diet?

A raw food diet is a plant-based way of eating that involves mostly raw (uncooked) fruits, vegetables and grains.

Benefits of Drinking and Eating Raw Food

When our food is cooked or pasteurized, its structure changes and all living things in it are killed. While this destroys most harmful bacteria, it also destroys the enzymes and probiotics that are so vital to our health. Enzymes and probiotics help with digestion and fight disease. They are also critical to maintaining a healthy gut and immune system.

In fact, following a raw food diet can decrease your chance of heart disease, stroke, Type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, obesity and kidney disease.

Many people who start eating and drinking raw food report feeling more energized, and typically get sick less often. That’s the miracle of nutrient- and enzyme-rich foods! They give our bodies exactly what they need, where processed, over-cooked foods and drinks fall short.

Examples of Raw Foods and Drinks

  • Fresh-picked fruits
  • Raw juices
  • Unpasteurized kombucha (must be labeled “raw” – most store-bought kombucha has been pasteurized.)
  • Raw vegetables, like kale, spinach and other greens, as well as broccoli and carrots
  • Poke or sashimi
  • Sprouted beans and grains
  • Raw, unroasted nuts

At Valley Isle Kombucha, we recognize the need for the beneficial enzymes and probiotics found only in raw food. That’s why our kombucha is never pasteurized and always raw. Pour yourself a glass, and enjoy the benefits of raw food in every sip.
